SHSM in Art and Design sets students up for a bright future
Good design, from architecture and furniture to highways and technology, makes all of our lives easier. The role of the arts in our culture enriches the lives of everyone. Art and design are among the largest and most vibrant sectors of our economy in the G.T.A.. Sometimes we can forget this as we plod through our daily drudgery. Here at Iroquois Ridge we are helping young people enter the ground floor of these creative realms by providing an SHSM in Art and Design.
We are currently beginning our sixth year of the Specialist High Skills Major program at Iroquois Ridge, with around 84 students over those years benefitting from an exciting and enriched education in Art and Design.
Specialist High Skills Major programs are ministry-approved specialized programs that allow students in grades 11 and 12 to focus their learning on a specific economic sector while meeting the requirements for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma. This enriched education assists in their transition from secondary school to apprenticeship training, college, university, or the workplace. At the Ridge we offer two SHSMs: Business and Art and Design.
If you are interested in Fine Art, Illustration, Graphic Design, Animation, Game Design, Interior Design, Architecture, Art Education, Industrial Design, Fashion, Theatre Design or any other field related to visual culture, consider applying to this enrichment program.
