SHSM Art & Design had a stellar year!
We have just wrapped up our seventh year of the Specialist High Skills Major program in Art and Design at Iroquois Ridge, with sixteen fabulous young artists and designers graduating from the program. The graduating group has diverse strengths and passions but are united by their inquisitive, creative minds and interest in visual culture.
The value of the SHSM Art & Design program can partly be seen in the success our grads have had in being accepted into competitive University and College programs. Most of our SHSM grads gained entry into their field of choice, be it Art, Architecture, Graphic Design or Landscape Architecture. Congratulations to you all!
Some of the activities the SHSM Art & Design program ran this year were trips to the Art Gallery of Ontario to experience the Ai Weiwei show, a tour of the Applied Arts Creative Schools Expo and the Sheridan College Open House, a bucolic nature art trek in Coote’s Paradise, a behind the scenes tour of the McMaster Museum of Art and a sunny June art gallery tour of Queen Street West. Workshops included an enlightening fibre art workshop with Ixchel Suarez and an exploration of ‘zines’ and installation art at the Oakville Galleries. Former IRHS art student Alex Dabic gave an inspiring talk about being a young practicing artist. As well, we offered six certifications including First Aid, C.P.R., WHMIS and Portfolio Development.
It is these enrichment opportunities that make the SHSM Art & Design program at Iroquois Ridge so valuable.
If you or your son or daughter is interested in post-secondary studies or a career in Fine Art, Illustration, Graphic Design, Animation, Game Design, Interior Design, Architecture, Art Education, Industrial Design, Fashion, Video production, Film or Theatre Design then you should consider applying to the SHSM in Art and Design! If you are interested in learning more about this program and perhaps applying, email Tim Butler at [email protected].
